Atlanta, GA – May 15, 2018 – Communities and families from all over Atlanta will be celebrating on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 PM at the annual Creekside Festival at Grove Park along the banks for the Proctor Creek. The Northwest Atlanta’s Grove Park Neighborhood Association will be hosting the third annual event with a fun-filled day of local food, arts, music and so much more for singles, couples and families who will be coming together and celebrating the diversity that is Atlanta.
The location for this year’s event is Grove Park, a Park Green Space at 1605 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.
Creekside Festival at Grove Park celebrates and acknowledges the rising-up of the historic Grove Park community in West Atlanta through community collaboration. Now organized and hosted by the newly re-established Grove Park Neighborhood Association, the 3rd annual expanded Creekside Festival is highlighting the community’s historic reputation for its love of art, music, family, fun and a love for the natural beauty and environment that envelopes their community, particularly along the banks of the beloved Proctor Creek.
The community leadership of Grove Park wanted a way to bring the community together and embrace their history through an event symbolic of their thriving past — and their promising future. The event started as a community gathering around Proctor Creek with barbecue and jazz. Last year, the event grew into a full-scale multi-community event, with a collaborative steering planning committee. This year, the event is an expanded citywide festival with vendor space. Sponsors of the 2018 event include MaxGroup Business Solutions, The City of Atlanta Office of Resiliency, Publix, KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools, Grove Park Foundation, Urban Creek Partners, and MusicNow Showcase.
“Last year over 1,000 wristbands were distributed for this wonderful event, and we plan to top those numbers for Creekside Festival 2018,” enthuses T. J. Austin, President of the Grove Park Neighborhood Association. “The responses from our sponsors, our community, as well as local artists and musicians have been incredibly positive.”
Grove Park represents a neighborhood of approximately 2,500 homes with 5,000+ residents in Northwest Atlanta. Recently named one of the “Hottest Neighborhoods of 2018” by Curbed Atlanta, Grove Park is becoming known as one of the “neighborhoods on the rise” within the city of Atlanta.
“This year’s Creekside Festival is an indicator of the tremendous growth of our community,” shares Torrie Redding, a long-standing member of the Grove Park Neighborhood Association (GPNA), and Chair of the Communications Committee. “We just re-established our neighborhood association 3 years ago, so we as community residents could bring a unified voice to the issues affecting our community. We are beginning to see the seeds we planted beginning to sprout, and it is very rewarding.”
Various major projects are underway in Northwest Atlanta’s Grove Park area, including the recently completed Proctor Creek Greenway Trail, and the Westside Reservoir Park. Grove Park was selected to be a community within the national network of Purpose Built Communities because of its promise and community leadership.
“In one year’s time, the Grove Park Neighborhood Association has expanded its ability to take on this exciting Festival beyond what we ever imagined back in 2015,” shares GPNA’s past president Karen Rose.
“With the various different supporting organizations and sponsorships, I know we’re in for an extraordinary experience this year — one we all want to see last for the next generation of Grove Park residents, and the generation after it.”
Volunteers and donations are needed to support the community’s efforts in Grove Park. To learn more about the Creekside Festival, and the Grove Park community, visit www.creeksideatl.com and www.groveparkatlanta.com.
Atlanta’s Grove Park was historically known for its “neighborhood clubs” as they were called. Named after the streets who hosted them, like the Fortified Hills and South Evelyn community club, these clubs served as a resource and gathering place for their neighbors, hosting meetings and block parties in the unique, beautiful median park throughout the Grove Park neighborhood.
The Grove Park Neighborhood Association was re-established in 2015 to represent our community residents in bringing a unified voice to the issues affecting our community.
We do this by creating forums in which we engage with businesses, community leaders, and elected officials.
